Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, April 22, 2024 - Distinguished Professor Le Van Phan is set to release immune-boosting complex (IBC) trial results during a presentation at the Pig Feed Quality Conference (PFQC) in Ho Chi Minh City. The trial assessed the protective efficacy of an IBC mix against experimentally ASFv-challenged pigs, mitigating the devastating impact of African Swine Fever (ASF) on global pig production, with an already significant impact on commercial farms in Vietnam.

Findings of our in-feed immune-boosting complex study

Dr. Le Van Phan, DVM, PhD, Associate Professor and Lecturer for the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Disease within the College of Veterinary Medicine of Vietnam, National University of Agriculture (VNUA), will deliver an on-stage presentation of the trial results of an in-feed IBC.

The study evaluated the protective efficacy of the IBC feed additive in an ASFv-challenge trial model design with pre-selected PCR-negative pigs. The results demonstrate promising outcomes in reducing ASFv symptoms and related serological parameters. Dr. Phan adds: "Pre-treatment with a proprietary IBC mixture significantly reduced mortality, supported immunity, and provided protection against ASF as evidenced by clinical signs and reduced mortality compared to untreated pigs."

About Dr. Le Van Phan, DVM, PhD

Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology and Infectious Disease, College of Veterinary Medicine, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). Dr. Phan is also appointed Vice Head of the Key Laboratory for Veterinary Biotechnology, VNUA. Dr. Phan has made significant contributions to the field, particularly in his pioneering work on African swine fever (ASF). Dr. Phan's laboratory was the first to detect ASFv in Vietnam and has since published an impressive array of papers on ASF in highly esteemed journals.

Professor Phan’s presentation is scheduled at 2 pm on June 11, in the Mekong Ballroom, at the Hotel Nikko Saigon, during the PFQC session titled ‘Factors Affecting Immunity’.

Technical briefing: in-feed IBC as a supportive aid

An exclusive technical briefing on the IBC will be held in the Mekong Ballroom on June 10, at 4:45 pm. Speakers include Dr. Dang Hoang Lam from Hung Vuong University in Vietnam and Dr. Milena Sevastiyanova, Global Technical Lead at Innovad Group. Dr. Lam, specialized in animal nutrition, will showcase local field results, demonstrating the influence of in-feed supplementation of this IBC and Dr. Sevastiyanova will elaborate on active immunity and scientific considerations to be made after this study.
